AREAS OF FOCUS
The Kiwanis Club of Poquoson has been an active force in community service. Members contribute many hours of personal service to a wide range of projects. Further the club donates food and other items for needy Poquoson families throughout the year and especially at Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Frequently the club is asked by Social Services or a local church to assist someone who is experiencing personal or financial difficulties.
Regular commitments represented below enable the Kiwanis Club of Poquoson to support youth programs in Poquoson. Check out the Newsreel for historical engagements.

Christmas Tree Lighting
For many years the club has organized and coordinated the city’s annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony. Lights are strung on a tree in front of the Municipal Building on Poquoson Avenue and arranged for Santa’s arrival on a fire truck and holiday music by high school band members. Our city’s mayor has traditionally delivered his Christmas address at this ceremony. Since 1997 the ceremony is conducted in front of the new City Hall on Victory Blvd. In 1998, the club planted a Norway spruce at the new City Hall in honor of the late General George Dickerson.
